Colonel - Senior Flight Surgeon

Dane S. Harden began studying martial arts in 1969 and was a direct student of Master Jhoon Rhee. He also trained extensively under world-champion kick boxer Joe Lewis, studied the samurai sword with Shihan Dana Abbott, and has trained in Yoshinkam Aikido under Hanshi Kevin Blok. Master Harden founded Western Masters Martial Arts in 1979 and also was fundamental in the development of several United States Army Training programs. Additionally, he served as a Senior Flight Surgeon and completed thirty five years of honorable service in the United States Army. He served in trauma evacuation missions in Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan, and many other locations. He retired as a Colonel in 2018 after finishing his last deployment with NATO in Cincu Romania. His military experiences in trauma evacuations and emergency management have blended with his belief in classical methods and have granted him a unique perspective as a warrior, soldier, healer and martial artist.

 

A PATHWAY TO PEACE - CLASSICAL YOSHINKAN AIKIDO

Through classical Yoshinkan Aikido, kick boxing, tae kwon do, and military combative skills, Colonel Harden will focus on a blended approach to defense and warrior skills. Explore classical breath control (kokyu-ho) and its relationship to combat breathing and adrenaline-based response. We will review and use basic strike drills, foot work, maneuver and focus on Yoshinkan Aikido's combative principles to understand a universal method of classical warrior-ship and defense. In the music industry, Zoltan Bathory is best known as the founding guitarist of multi-platinum rock band Five Finger Death Punch. He is also an accomplished lifelong martial artist, with black belts in judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Bathory is the 2021 IBJJF American Nationals silver medalist in the Masters Super Heavy Weight and Absolute divisions for black belts, and has extensive competition experience at other belt levels within the sport.
